At the former Alpargatas factory in Barracas, Buenos Aires, the Argentine artist presents busts that bring together digital capture, sculptural reproduction and casting. The installation engages with the material traces of Palacio Molina, the setting for an edition devoted to “Alchemy.”

The busts that Armando Frezze Durand reproduces and reworks appear in different formats and settings: private collections, antique dealers, concept stores and, now, Casa FOA. At Palacio Molina, his recurring use of the same figure enters into a dialogue with the building’s stratigraphy: its walls reveal layers of paint and plaster, while the concrete and aluminum sculptures bear traces of their making and of time. Each version retains a recognizable face, yet its marks and materials make it singular.

The artist’s practice begins with capturing the body and reconstructing it digitally. The figure can be modeled, reproduced, cast and reworked, circulating again as both object and image. This passage between the virtual and the physical foregrounds a persistent question in his work: what remains of an identity when its form is replicated and transformed?

Invited by PACTO Estudio, Frezze Durand presents his sculptures in steel and mirrored niches with overhead lighting. Reflections multiply each bust, while the light reveals matte, polished and colored areas of the metal. The exposed walls introduce another timescale: that of a historic industrial building whose layers remain visible
